The former US president Donald Trump has been acquitted of inciting insurrection after last month’s storming of the US Capitol building.
At the end of his impeachment trial the US Senate voted by 57 to 43 in support of the charges — but short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict him.
In a statement Mr Trump said his impeachment had been “another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of America”.
