Myanmar’s military has staged a coup, saying November’s election was fraudulent. Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and the leadership of her party were taken into custody as communications lines were cut in the country.
The incoming US administration led governments around the world in condemning Myanmar’s military coup on Monday, calling for the release of elected leaders, including the country’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Al Jazeera’s Scott Heidler reports.

Lol these nations never learn from their history … they were the colony of British rule … when British left the scene … the Army regime started to behave like British viceroy … they simply couldn't come out of the British rule mentally even though it's been decades … British have left … what a sad story
Civil war in Asian countries ?
Aung San Suu Kyi facilitated a genocide against the Rohingya people, whilst also simultaneously defending and denying the genocide.
I don't really feel sorry for Suu Kyi.
Who cares. !
Just wondering, is there any form of democracy in Qatar? Have never heard or seen Al Jazeera ever discussing that! That’s disgusting and cheap.
The generals toke over so they can make more money them self.
China is their international …. they v been poisenned by CCP … THEY WANT TOTALIRASIM NOW
Myanmar is officially a nation under idiocy …
Aun San was never able to create a homogenous Burma. The generals were always at her heels. So, those who criticised her for not helping the Rohinga need to understand her dilemma. It was Burma little by little and yet the generals and extremist buddhists couldn't wait to seize power and set Burma back decades. Today the Karen people will like many ethnic groups be worried as the generals with give the soldiers 6 months pay to do their evil deeds.
The army chief must be designated as the enemy of civil government by the world community.
I am happy bro
so america is going to send troops to get democracy now huhhh
I'm not too outraged by this> This lady has been in charge of the country for a very long time, like dictator status like Puttin, but elected the same as Puttin. These S/E Asian countries have revolutions all the time, bloodless and swift, which actually allow whatever corruption there is to make a shift and not be as corrupt as it was before. I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but in general, I think it's nice that they get to flush their toilet every now and then so that either never gets a chance to stack it so high.
lCJ?need?
Useless condemnation as expected
Last time, we saw this on the streets was in Washington, during the US Presidential inauguration. Military needed to secure "Democracy" in the US.
Alas! But world leaders are failed to give same kind of statement on Rohingya issue!
The west don't know how to solve problem they are just showing their arrogance pathetic.
Lol Australia was never on the side of democracy, remember the spying scandal of the representatives of Timor-Leste?
What about poor Bangladesh ?
I really like every coup d'etat all over the world. Democracy is just lame. they(parties) elect (four or five people) from each party then people have to vote anyhow for electing their leader to run the country.
Human Crimes against Rohinyan people in Burma?
Come on Australia back off. Hypocrites country. Just like canada and Great Britain
China gave the generals the green light.
Wasn't a serious blow to demoracy when. SISI removed democratically elected gov in Egypt, US attacked Syria
Great army 😍
This could be US, luckily Trump does not has the support of the military.
AND the US Senete is going to acquitte him.!
The serious blow to democracy started with US elections.
Hahahahah
Unsurprising since Burma is a failed state.
World cares more about the appearance of democracy than actual rights for all people. This is inevitable.
Radical Buddhists of Myanmar have always persecuted and killed Muslim rohingyas. I don't have sympathy for the people of Myanmar, they got what they deserve.
